Daniel Leo Lynch died at his home in Citrus Springs, Florida, on October 5, 2023. Dan was born on September 5, 1944, in Boone, Iowa, to Leo and Ina Lynch. He grew up on a farm outside Dana and attended Dana Elementary School. Dan graduated from East Greene High School in 1962, and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp. He proudly served his country for the next four years. Dan held a variety of jobs including working as an auto mechanic, but he preferred self-employment. He travelled all across the country as an independent trucker. Sometimes he took a family member or a friend along to see the amazing landscapes he enjoyed. For several years, he owned and operated Dan’s Place in Beaver. It gave him a ready audience for the jokes he loved to tell. He sometimes stayed open on holidays and prepared a special meal for people who would have otherwise spent the occasion alone. Although Dan worked at other jobs, he was a farm boy at heart and enjoyed helping out on the family farm, especially during the fall harvest. Dan retired to Florida where he could golf and ride his Harley-Davidson motorcycle all year. He was active in veteran’s groups in the area, and always looked forward to visits from his Iowa friends. However, Dan was never one to sit still for long. He soon began working at a golf course, and later, started his own lawn care service. A Memorial Mass will be held 10:30 am Monday, November 13, 2023 at St. Brigid Catholic Church in Grand Junction with Fr. Bill Schreiber officiating. Burial will take place at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Grand Junction, Iowa with Military Honors. Memorials are suggested to the local food pantry. Dan is survived by his children Deanne, David, Patricia, and daughter-in-law Andrean, and four grandchildren - Cole, August, Eloise, and Ethan. Also left to mourn him are his siblings - Kathy, Barb, Marilyn, John, Susan, and Ed. Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home is assisting the family. Online condolences may be left at www.sliningerschroeder.com.
