Norma Lorene Hogge, 95, daughter of George & Elsie (Quayle) Cabelka, was born July 31, 1929 on the family farm near Yale, Iowa. She passed away Thursday, February 27, 2025 at the Dallas County Hospital in Perry, Iowa.
Norma began her education in the one room school house down the road from her home. She continued her education and graduated from Bagley High School in 1947. Norma was the last surviving classmate. On January 31, 1948, she was united in marriage to Dale Hogge in Jefferson, Iowa. After moving to several farms, they settled on her family’s farm near Yale in 1966. After Dale’s death, she continued to live on the farm before moving into Bagley in 2007.
Norma retired from Electrolux in Jefferson after 25 years. She loved being outdoors tending to her garden and traveling. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, stain glass, making rugs, having a big garden and growing beautiful flowers. She was very proud of her sewing and crafting, of which she was self taught. She entered several of her crocheting and quilting items at the Guthrie County Fair, winning several awards. Her family celebrated her receiving the Century Farm award at the Iowa State Fair. Norma was an excellent cook and was always trying new recipes.
Norma enjoyed family gatherings and reunions. She held many roles in life that she was proud of, Mother and Grandmother. Her favorite was Grandma Great until a year and a half ago when she became Great-Grandma-Great.
Norma is survived by her daughters, Shirley (Steve) Chapman of Bagley and Karen (Scott) Smith of Sioux Falls, SD; five grandchildren, Melissa (Dean) Finnell, Brenda (Nathan) Pevestorf, Christopher (Jennifer) Hogge, Joe (Megan) Smith, and Lilly (Michael) Carr; 12 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Lois Newkirk of Fort Dodge; sisters-in-law, Marcella Fairchild of Cedar Rapids and Sandra Hogge of Hopkins, MN; and brother-in-law, Ray Anderson of Sioux Rapids, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dale, son Alvin Hogge, brother Carroll Cabelka, and several relatives.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at the Twigg Funeral Home, Panora with visitation starting at 1:00 P.M. Burial will be in Richland Township Cemetery, near Bagley.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
