Carla Jean Sims, 60, of Panora, daughter of Robert Carl and Jean Ann (Madsen) Sims, was born Aug. 19, 1959, in St. Louis. She passed away Aug. 31 at Panora Specialty Care.
Carla was baptized on Aug. 31, 1961. She graduated from Des Moines East High School. She later attended DMACC and Grand View University, studying art. She graduated from Arizona Institute of Business and Technology with a computer operations course of instruction in 1987.
Carla lived in various communities, but mostly in the Scottsdale, Ariz., and Des Moines areas.
She worked as a nanny and an artist for most of her career, but also was a certified nurses aide, cashier and radio personality for a short time. For the last few years, she has been a resident of the Panora Specialty Care Center.
She was very faith based and would volunteer for anything. She was a very playful and funny person who enjoyed singing. She attended Abundant Life Ministries in Jefferson.
She is survived by her son, Michael Sims, of Urbandale; mother Jean Ann Madsen, of Peoria, Ariz.; sister Jill Ann Daggett, of Perry; brother Rick I. Schrier, of Peoria, Ariz.; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Cremation has taken place and celebration of life services will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are being handled by the Twigg Funeral Home, Panora.
