Daryl Lewis Campbell, son of John Lewis Campbell and Sena Margaret Jensen Campbell, was born July 7, 1952 in Greenfield and died Nov. 19, 2021 in Greenfield at the age of 69. Daryl grew up in Bridgewater, Iowa, especially enjoying his time spent on the farm outside of town. He spoke often of being at the creek, doing farm work, and spending time with his cousins growing up. Daryl graduated from Bridgewater-Fontanelle High School where he enjoyed playing football, wrestling, and throwing the discus. He continued with these activities when attending Simpson College. It was during this time that he married his sweetheart, Sharon Ruth Jantz.

Sharon Ruth Jantz Campbell, daughter of Olan Benjamin Jantz and Avis Louise Hawley Jantz, was born February 16, 1951 in Jefferson and died Nov. 23, 2021 in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 70. Sharon grew up on the farm outside of Jefferson. She talked about traveling to visit her grandparents, time spent with neighbors when parents congregated for meals and games, bus rides to and from school with her friends, and sometimes having piglets in the house to warm up after being born on a cold day. Sharon graduated from Jefferson High School and trained as a registered nurse at Iowa Methodist School of Nursing. It was during this time that she married her sweetheart, Daryl Lewis Campbell.

To this union came four children, Jennifer Rae, James Lewis, Rebecca Lynn, and Wesley Adam. Daryl and Sharon celebrated 50 years of marriage this year. During those years there were innumerable celebrations, milestones, challenges, and victories. They spent their lives loving and caring for their children. Even as adults, their children often called for advice and wisdom. As grandchildren were born you could see the love in their eyes as they held them, played with them, encouraged them and watched them grow. They spent endless hours traveling to watch their grandchildren’s activities. They wanted to be present as much as they could. Because of their love for their family, they will be greatly missed by daughter Jennifer and her husband Mike Woodruff of Jefferson, son James Campbell of Fontanelle, daughter Rebecca and her husband Rick Killion of Jefferson, and son Wesley Adam and his wife Jackie of Orient; nine grandchildren Ethan, Evan, and Logan Woodruff, Nickolas and Lauryn Killion, and Emily, Eli, Amber, and Kelly Campbell; Sharon’s brother Warren and his wife Sue, Daryl’s sisters Julia Campbell and Janet Elings and her husband Dennis, nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many, many friends.

Joint Funeral services were held on Monday, Nov. 29 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle with burial in the Jefferson Cemetery in Jefferson. The Steen Funeral Home in Fontanelle was in charge of the professional arrangements.  Online condolences may be left to the family at www.steenfunerals.com.
