Vera Joanne Nottingham was born July 8, 1930, the daughter of Clifford and Florence Lorain (Safely) Derry in Jefferson. She passed away on Sunday, Dec. 26, 2021, at the Adair County Memorial Hospital in Greenfield at the age of 91.
Joanne was raised in rural Guthrie County. She was united in marriage to Leo Marckmann on May 6, 1946. To this union four children were born: Robert, Linda, Wanda and Joan. They raised their family in rural Adair, Iowa.
Joanne had many jobs and she excelled in all of them! She loved to work. She enjoyed quilting, dancing, playing cards and she also sewed a lot of clothes. She brought happiness to all that knew her and enjoyed presenting herself in an attractive way! On July 21, 1994, she was united in marriage to Bruce Nottingham. They lived in Jefferson and in 2010 she moved to Greenfield to be near her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Rex Thompson; and both husbands, Leo Marckmann in 2006 and Bruce Nottingham in 2011.
She is survived by her son, Robert Marckmann of West Des Moines; three daughters, Linda Thompson (Gary) of Stuart, Wanda Johnson (Dennis) of Fontanelle and Joan Burnett (Craig) of Leawood, Kansas; six grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Barb Krambeer of Lake View; other relatives and friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle. Pastor Steven Broers will officiate the service. Luncheon and fellowship with the family will be held at the church immediately following the service. Memorials may be made to Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle.
