Maxine Dunlop

Maxine Gladys Calvert Dunlop, 99, daughter of Robert William Calvert and Eva C. Hatfield Calvert, was born on September 20, 1916 in Hardin Township, Greene County, Iowa. She died Monday, March 14, 2016 at Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson. A funeral service was held Thursday, March 17 at 10:00 a.m., at Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson. Words of comfort were officiated by Reverend Sheldon Henderson of Central Christian Church. Casket bearers were Edward Calvert, Donald Dunlop, Steven Smith, William J. Calvert, Christopher Calvert and Doug Fouch. Musician was Sheilah Pound. Music selected by the family was “In the Garden”, “Amazing Grace” and “The Old Rugged Cross”. Internment was held at Jefferson Cemetery.

Maxine grew up on the family farm and attended Hardin No.5 School through 8th grade. She graduated from Jefferson High School in 1935. Maxine then attended the teaching program at the University of Northern Iowa, earning a Teachers Certificate. Maxine taught at Greene County Country Schools before her marriage to Floyd Duane Dunlop on May 28, 1952 in Maryville, Missouri. Maxine was a farm wife and helped her husband, Duane on the farm they farmed west of Farlin, northeast of Jefferson and South of Dana. They made their home on the farm until 1968 when they moved to Grand Junction. Later, they bought a home in Jefferson.

Maxine loved to crochet and embroidery, collect pencils, stamps and match books. Her real love of collecting was her dear Hummel’s which she collected for many years and displayed in her home. She loved to read all kinds of books, which she did until her eyesight deteriorated.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Harlan, Cecil and Russell Calvert; and sisters: Marguerite Weaver, Romaine Calvert, Wilma Dunlop, Treva Smith and Nadine Bennett. Survivors include her husband, Duane of 64 years; sister, Billie Pevestorf of Jefferson; her brother, Robert Calvert of Charles City, Iowa; nieces and nephews; and many friends.
