Landon Jacob Martin, 12, of Jefferson, Iowa passed away in his parent’s arms at 5:03 a.m. August 23, 2018 at Greene County Medical Center. Landon fought an aggressive brain cancer identified in March, and ultimately won his wings and the keys to heaven.

Landon loved life, and he loved God. He was happiest when enjoying the gifts of God’s creation. Outdoor adventures, hunting, fishing and sports were all passions he pursued daily. Most important to Landon however, was family. He loved being a big brother to Callie, Kimber and Crew. The bond and love he had for his siblings was tangible; he was Callie’s best friend, Kimber’s hero, and Crew’s favorite place to snuggle. He had a special bond with his mom and dad as well. He had a way of asking his mom for things and she was rarely able to resist his sweet face. He could never get enough time with his dad, especially when they would go fishing alone for hours. Although they brought home some really nice bass, the hours spent bonding and talking were the real catch. When they weren’t in the boat they were in a tree, chasing whitetail deer with a stick and a string.

Landon was actively involved in sports. Saturdays in the summer were spent on the ball diamond, and afternoons in the fall on the football field. Through sports he developed a wonderful group of friends. They dreamt of Friday night football, girls and Fortnite. The boys are beautiful, crazy and amazing kids; now they have an angel in their dugout.

Landon is survived by his loving father, Bryce, his loving mother, Valerie and his siblings: Callie, Kimber and Crew. Grandparents, Charles and Anita Martin and Bruce and Rosalie Bonini. Uncle Jeremy, Aunt Gail Martin and cousins: Chase, Regan and Kaitlin. Aunt Amy (Martin) Klauer, Uncle Mike and cousin, Brecken. Aunt Melanie (Bonini) Lutt, Uncle Tate, and cousins: Rilynn, Jaxon and Hudson. In addition to family, Landon leaves behind many great friends and a community that loved him.

Visitation with the family was from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, August 26, 2018 at Abundant Life Ministries, 1308 West Lincoln Way in Jefferson. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, August 27 at Abundant Life Ministries with Rev. David Schroeder officiating. “Slow Down” and “I Will Carry You” were sung by soloist, Miranda Sebourn. Casket bearers were J.J. Hoyle, Justin Smith, Todd Hansen, Mark Wolterman, Benny Mote and Carl Behne. Honorary bearers were Jack Hansen, Trey Schilling, Michael Rumley, Kolby Angell, Gabe Ebersole, Gavin Scheuermann, Nathan Behne, Cody Allen, Brayton Crouse, Layne Carstens, Brynlee Ruzicka, Chase Martin, Jackson Smith and Aiden Smith.
